Life Time, the healthy lifestyle brand operating more than 185 “athletic country clubs” across the US and Canada, has secured a lease for a sprawling, multi-level facility at the 175 Third Street development. This site is part of the extensive Gowanus Wharf campus being developed by Charney Companies and Tavros Capital.
Key features of the over 85,000-square-foot “athletic country club” will include:
- A year-round rooftop beach club featuring hot and cold pools, saunas, and a bar.
- An indoor, co-ed “wet suite” offering recovery and longevity services, such as sauna, steam, red-light, and infrared therapies.
- Spaces for the popular sport of pickleball.
- A coworking lounge space.
The club will offer its signature mix of health, wellness, and lifestyle programming for all ages.
The developers, Charney Companies and Tavros, state that welcoming Life Time as an anchor tenant elevates the experience at 175 Third Street, which is designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Upon completion, 175 Third Street will be the largest building in Gowanus, encompassing approximately 1.1 million square feet and including around 1,100 residences (about 250 of which will be affordable).
This investment by Life Time—one of over a dozen planned or existing locations in NYC—is seen as validation of Gowanus’ ongoing transformation, which was catalyzed by the 2021 neighborhood rezoning.
